Walk through time

As part of our Stoneyholme Eco code, we encourage everyone to walk or park and stride to school to help improve their health and well-being and to reduce the congestion and air pollution around our school at the start and at the end of the school day.

To encourage and reward the children for their active journeys to school, we take part in the WOW Walk to school challenges.

Our Walk to school challenge theme for this year is

   Walk through time

Each month we learn about different key historic moments. From prehistoric creatures, to ancient societies, to important moments and great journeys that changed the world.

Badges for 2022-23

To earn a badge you will need to walk or park and stride to school at least 3 times a week, for a month.

The badges are designed by school children taking part in walk to school challenge. Our school did not have any winning designs for the badges this year. To see the winning designs from the other schools taking part, please click on the links below.

Walking is a great way to get to school, but there are dangers to be aware of if you are near roads and traffic. Please make sure you follow the Green Cross Code when you are crossing a road or back street.

The Green Cross Code

  1. Think - Find a safe place to cross the road.

 2. Stop - Just before you get to the kerb.

 3. Look and Listen - Look all around you for traffic and listen. Watch out for bicycles, electric cars and scooters. You don't often hear them but they can travel very fast.

 4. Wait - If traffic is coming, let it pass.

 5. Look and listen again - Look all around again and listen. When it is safe, walk straight across the road - do not run!

 6. Arrive alive - Keep looking and listening for traffic while you cross the road.

Meet the new celebrity ambassador

CBBC presenter and emergency doctor, Dr Ronx, will promote WOW and the health benefits of walking to school

“I’m thrilled to be the new ambassador for WOW – the walk to school challenge from Living Streets. With notable increases in air pollution, rising childhood inactivity and post-lockdown poor mental health, encouraging children to be more active and ditching school run drives for more sustainable modes of transport is imperative."

We are also going to take part in the 'Walk of fame' challenges throughout the year. The challenges will celebrate the achievement of schools topping the local or national WOW leaderboard at the end of each challenge.
