Tuesday 22nd June 2021

L.C. To prepare and read playscripts aloud showing tone, intonation and volume.

What can you remember about play scripts?

We are going to look at a part of ‘Stig of the Dump’.

One version is from the book by Clive King.

The other is a play script.

With the person set next to you, discuss the similarities and differences you notice between the 2 versions.

What similarities have you spotted?

What differences have you spotted?

We are going to be using the play script version on the scene today.

We will be going outside to work in small groups and act out a small scene from the story.

You are going to need to use:

Tone - shows the characters feelings and thoughts.

Intonation - the rise and fall of your voice.

Actions - the movements we make.

Volume - the loudness of your voice.

When we act, using a play script, we need to look at the stage directions.

Stage directions will tell us where to move as well as how we might say something.

We can find this information inside the brackets.

Scene 4 The Dump

Barney:  Stig, I’ve got to go. (Pointing to the weapons) Can I borrow one of your spears to help me get home safe?

Stig:  ug (meaning yes) (continuing to make marks in the wall

Barney: (smiling) Thanks Stig!

(Barney nervously leaves the dump and starts to walk home

(An Owl Twit-twoo’s. Barney looks around to see where it came from)

Barney: (worried) Go away Mr. Owl! You frightened me!

What is this stage direction telling me to do?
