Scene 4 - The Dump
Barney: Stig, I’ve got to go. (pointing to the weapons)
Can I borrow one of your spears to help me get home safe?
Stig: Ug (nod your head and continue to make marks on the wall)
Barney: (smiling) Thanks Stig!
(Barney nervously picks up the wood from the fire and a spear and leaves the dump and starts to walk home.)
(Barney grabs his spear tightly as he sees a figure in the shadows. He notices it’s a can so he kicks it. He climbs up the copse. An Owl Twit-twoos. Barney looks around to see where it came from and jabs with his spear.)
Barney: (worried) Go away Mr. Owl! You frightened me!
Scene 5 – Grandma’s House
(Grandma and Lou are eating crumpets at the table.)
Grandma: (shocked) Barney! Where have you been? Were you up in your room all this time?
Barney: (apologetically) No, Granny. I’m sorry I’m late, but I’ve been out with Stig.
Grandma: (gently) You’ve been out in the cold and dark all this time! Oh Barney!
Barney: (excitedly) I wasn’t cold, really granny. But poor Stig was nearly frozen to death and I had to warm him up. His axe wasn’t sharp enough to cut down the trees so we cut down a big one and then his saw got stuck so I had to climb up it and pull it down and then we cut it up and pushed it down the pit.
Stig tried to light the fire with a chair leg and an egg-cup and a television aerial but I showed him how to strike matches and we ate chestnuts.
And Lou, Stig’s jolly good at drawing horses and things and he was still drawing them when I left. It was like a blackboard on the chalk.
Lou: (chuckling to herself)
Granny, Barney said Stig were drawing with a blackboard on the chalk. He meant chalk on the blackboard!
(Grandma and Lou start laughing. Barney joins in.)
