Writing

Warm up

Look carefully at the first sentence below. As you can see in the example, the relative pronoun has been omitted from the embedded clause.

In your blended learning book, please complete the second sentence. As you can see, most of the sentence has been written to help you. Think carefully about what the bottle is rooted to.

Today we are going to be using point and evidence to justify opinions and statement in the text. We are going to be reading more of the Alice in Wonderland story to help our understanding of the plot and the characters.

Step 1

Read pages 6 to 10 to remind yourself of the plot so far and the character that appear in the story. As you read, think about how Alice might be feeling when she is experiencing these weird but wonderful events.

It is important to read these pages carefully because you will be using this information to justify the opinions and statement you have been provided with.

Step 2

Using the pages 6-7 let's answer the point above.

We have to determine whether the statement is true or false.

After reading the page 6, I know that this statement is true. Because it says in the text 'When her head hit the ceiling'.

As you can see I have retrieved my evidence from the text to support the point.

Step 2

Using the pages 6-7 let's answer the point above.

We have to determine whether the statement is true or false.

After reading the page 6, I know that this statement is false. Because it says in the text 'she was growing small and again and ran to the garden door. But it was locked'.

As you can see I have retrieved my evidence from the text to support the point.

Step 3

Look at the next model below. As you can see below, I have determined the point to be false and I have supported this using evidence from the text.

Can you find this evidence in the text?

When you find it, notice how I haven't changed any of the text as it is evidence.

TASK

First, write the date and LC in your blended learning book.

Then, using pages 8, 9 and 10, determine whether the statements below are true or false and support this using evidence from the text.

Look below to see how it should be set out in your book.

When you have finished, send a picture of your work to your teacher on SEESAW!
