World Environment Day

World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment and is celebrated every year on the 5th of June. It was founded in 1972 by the United Nations as a day to do activities that help the environment.

What is the environment?

The environment is the natural surroundings which we and all living creatures live in.

This year, World Environment Day will be hosted by Côte d'Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands. The theme will focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.

Here is a message from Antonio Gutteres,

Secretary-General, United Nations
