Week 2

Health care in our community.

Think about a time when you or your family may have needed some kind of healthcare. Have you ever been to the doctor, the dentist, opticians, or the school nurse? Have you had any routine immunisations or maybe a family member needed the COVID vaccine? Was it easy or hard to get this care? Were you able to get the care in your own community, or did you have to travel a long way?

Community Mapping

Now we’re going to pop on our explorer hats and explore the health system in our local community. We’re going to think about the services we have access to that help ensure our right to the best possible health.
Look at the map of Stoneyholme. What are the key buildings, places, and roads, around our school and community?
Looking at the map, what health systems are available to us? Where are the places you can go to for healthcare?
Are there any key places missing? Think about what you
pass on you way to the school, or the shops, or the park.
Where is the hospital? The doctor? The dentist? The chemist? Circle each of these locations on the map or mark them with a small red + which is an international sign for healthcare

Are there any issues with the health care in our community? What improvements could be made?
