In Talking Maths this week, we will be looking at time.
How many minutes are there in an hour?
Remember, 60 minutes = 1 hour.
What time is it 30 minutes after 10:40am?
We need to first add an amount of minutes until we reach 60 minutes.
40 + ? = 60.
The answer is 20.
We then subtract this from the time we are adding
30 - 20 = 10.
This tells us the amount of minutes after the hour we have.
So our answer ends with 10 minutes past the hour.
Remember, you need to add 1 to the hours because you have gone past 60 minutes.
10:40am + 30 minutes = 11:10am
