Summer 2

Summer 2 Curriculum

English

A narrative poem is a poem that tells a story. Our English learning this half term will all be based around a classic narrative poem that was written almost two hundred years ago by Mary Howitt. At the end of the unit, we will write a narrative of the story using inverted commas for dialogue, persuasive language and vivid descriptions.

This illustration from our key text has some clues that tell us what the poem is about. What can you see?

We will also be learning to use effective questions in an interview and how to write a police type report from the information gathered. To develop our descriptions, we will be creating delicious menus.

Maths

In Maths we will be exploring and working with fractions. We will be counting in tenths, understanding fractions as division, and looking at equivalent fractions. At the end of the unit we will applying content knowledge to sophisticated word problems.

STEMterprise

In our farming project will become plant experts, grow our own ingredients, develop food and non-⁢food products, set up a farm shop business and calculate with money. We will be making garlic bread in our business groups and making/selling pressed flowered products.

P.E.

In Athletics, we will perform various throws using pull, push, and sling actions for distance. We will also explore different running and 5 jumping techniques. We will recognise strengths and areas for improvement in our own performance.

RE

In RE we will be learning about the religion, Christianity. Our focus will be on the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, which consists of God the Father, God the Son and of course God the Holy Spirit. The children will learn that the Holy Spirit was introduced on Earth at a time called, Pentecost. The children will learn that the Holy Sprit has special gifts called, ‘fruits of the spirit’. Children will learn about these gifts and hopefully exhibit many of them in their lives.
