In Literacy, we will be reading traditional stories in the style of ‘Folk Tales’. We will use Talk for Writing to learn the story 'The Greenling’, then we will write our own version. We will be identifying our favourite words and phrases from the story and considering dialogue, which will be punctuated using inverted commas. We will be writing complex sentences using a comma where the subordinating clause comes first. We will learn about subordination for reason and develop characters with the story. We will also sequence events in our stories.
In Maths, we are learning how to solve problems using our knowledge of multiplication and division. In year 3 we learn the x3 x4 and x8, as well as revising x2 x5 x10 and the division facts. Children can practice their times tables using TTRockstars.
In Science, we are learning to identify that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition in order to be healthy.
We will link this to Engineering, Enterprise and Maths to design, create and produce a healthy snack.
In R.E our focus question is 'How and why have some people served God?' We will discuss the similarities and differences between religions.
In PSHCE we will be learning about how to keep healthy by exercising, sleeping well and healthy eating. We will discussing and making healthy choices.
In ICT we will be learning all about Coding. We will design a sequence of instructions, including directional instructions. Write programs that accomplish specific goals.
In Gymnastics, we will develop ways of travelling, balancing on small body parts and create a sequence of travel and balance actions. We will also develop ways of rolling, jumping, shape and landing. We will create a sequence of gymnastic actions and perform these using apparatus. We will evaluate and recognise our successes.
In Invasion Games (Tag Rugby), we will send and receive a rugby ball and move into spaces to receive passes. We will use simple tactics in a game and revise them in an invasion game.
In Year 3 we deliver a balanced and broadly based curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our pupils, and prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
We will learn about Children's Rights: Article 14- Every child has the right think and believe what they want.
Year 3’s PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Please can children come to school dressed in their school PE uniform.
