LC: To use food chains to identify producers, predators and prey.

Recap

A food chain always starts with a producer. This is an organism that makes its own food. Most food chains start with a green plant, because plants can make their own food by photosynthesis.

predator is an animal that eats other animals. The animals that predators eat are called prey. Predators are found at the top of a food chain.

Click on the picture below and see how many food chains you can create.

Within a food chain, we have different types of consumers.

We have Carnivores, Omnivores and Herbivores.

Carnivores eatmostly meat, or the flesh of animals.

Carnivores eat other consumers.

Lion, eagle, shark are the examples of the carnivores.

“Carnivores – meat eater”

A herbivore is an animal that gets its energy from eating plants, and only plants.

Herbivores eat producers.

Cows, deer and elephants are examples of herbivores.

“Herbivores – plant eaters”

An omnivore is an organism that eats both plants as well as other animals. Most humans are omnivores as they eat fruits, vegetables and chickens, egg etc.

Examples of omnivores: Monkeys, Birds, Bears, Raccoons, People

“Omnivores – Plant + Meat Eater”.

Using what we have learnt about the food chains over the last 2 weeks, write a short paragraph that explains a food chain.

Within your paragraph, we want to see you explain a food chain of your choice. You must explain the process of the food chain and the types of consumers there are in your food chains.
You need to use a complex sentence with an adverbial starter.

e.g. Unfortunately, as the caterpillar is slow, it is easy prey for the owl.

In the woodland habitat, there are many food chains which show how animals get their energy.
