LC: To identify and explain the author’s choice of adverbial starters.

 

Peacefully, the tree sat alone in the middle of the field. Like every other day, no sheep grazed beneath it, no squirrels swung from its large limbs and even the birds' usual feast of beetles and worms avoided its gnarled trunk. For all the life it sustained, the tree might as well have been an island floating among treacherous seas as the sun came up from behind the rocky mountains.
