Although he claimed not to be afraid, Jasper edged closer towards the crumbling mansion. In the clouded moonlight, he beckoned to Ella to follow closely behind. Trembling, Ella took his hand and clasped the torch firmly as they drew nearer towards the haunted house.

 

A few moments later, the couple had reached the ancient back door to the property. Petrified, Ella let out an almighty scream when an owl hooted in the nearby trees. Swiftly, Jasper held his hand over her mouth to silence her before gently letting go.
