LC: To discuss why many people are willing to make sacrifices.
Sacrifice: to give up something of value for someone else
What things do you value in life?
Think about yourself, the people around you and the things you possess.
Create a list in your RE book.
Example:
Miss Hall's list of values
- her family
- her friends
- her bed
- her car
- cheese
-free time
Imagine Miss Hall has just bought a lovely wheel of French brie cheese.
She plans to go home and eat it with some lovely, warm crusty bread. Her mouth is watering at the thought of it. As she walks home with this French brie cheese, she notices someone sitting on the pavement.
Should she make a sacrifice and give up her cheese that she loves so much to feed a hungry man that she doesn't even know?
What are you reasons for this?
First Challenge
Write about a time you made a sacrifice.
What was the sacrifice?
Who was the sacrifice for?
Why did you choose to make the sacrifice?
How did the sacrifice make you feel?
You can use this scaffold to help you write your response:
When I was ______________________, I made a sacrifice for __________________________ . My sacrifice was _________
______________________________. Although it ______________ me to make the sacrifice, I did it because ______________________. Afterwards, I felt ___________ because ______________________.
Second Challenge
Explain why many people are willing to make sacrifices for the people they love and why some people are willing to make sacrifices for someone they don't even know.
You can use this scaffold to help you write your response:
People are willing to make sacrifices for their loved ones because _____
______________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________.
Some people are willing to make a sacrifice for someone they don't even know because ___________________________________________
_____________________________________________________.
Record these in your RE books.
