Morning/ Afternoon Work

To be able to calculate the perimeter of 2-D shapes.

Make sure to look at the unit of measure.

If we have a rectangular shape we can use 2 different methods to work out the perimeter.

Method 1

First, we find out the length of each side of a shape.

We then add all of the lengths together.

Method 2

Find the length of the 2 perpendicular sides.

Then, add these together.

Finally, multiply by 2 (double).

Some shapes suit different methods.

If the shape is a rectangle, method 2 might be the quicker option.

However, if the shape is different in shape method 1 may be quicker.
