To know all units of measure and when best to use each one.

 

It is important that we know what each of the measurement symbols mean.

 

When measuring weight, we use:
 

g = grams

kg = kilograms

 

1000 grams = 1 kilogram. 

 

If I was measuring the weight of an elephant,
which unit of measure would I use?

g or kg?

 

When measuring length, we use:
 

mm = millimetres 

cm = centimetres 

m = metres

km = kilometre

 

10 millimetres = 1 centimetres

100 centimetres = 1 metre

1000 metres = 1 kilometre

 

If I was to measure the length of a football pitch, which unit of length would be best to use?

mm,  cm,  m,  or  km?


 

If I was to measure the length of a piece of motorway, which unit of length would be best to use?

mm,  cm,  m,  or  km?

 

When measuring capacity, we use:
 

ml = millilitres 

l = litres

 

1000 millilitres = 1 litre

 

If I was to measure the amount of liquid in a drinking glass , which unit of capacity would be best to use?

ml or l?


 

If I was to measure the amount of liquid in a bath tub, which unit of capacity would be best to use?

ml or l?
