3-digit by 1-digit Division

When, dividing any number, we start from the highest valued digit.
In 3-digit numbers this would be the hundreds.

For this, you will need your 2 times tables.

How many 2s fit into 6?

The answer is 3.

We write the answer 3 above the ‘bus stop’ in the hundreds column.

How many 2s fit into the number 8?

The answer is 4.

We write the answer 4 above the ‘bus stop’ in the tens column.

How many 2s fit into 8?

The answer is 4.

We write the answer 4 above the ‘bus stop’ in the ones’ column.

This means, 84 divided by 4 = 21.
