Just like when you solve column addition and subtraction, you start with the digits in the ones.
6 x 5 = 30
Since, 30 is 3 tens and 0 ones, you have to remember to rename, in order to keep the place values in the correct column. The 0 stays in the ones column, while you rename the 3 into the tens column.
Time to work out 6 x 20 now.
6 x 20 = 120
But you can’t forget about the 3 tens that you renamed - you need to remember to add that on to the answer.
120 + 30 = 150
Again, make sure everything is in the correct place value column.
Since, 150 is 1 hundred and 5 tens, you have to remember to rename, in order to keep the place values in the correct column. The 5 stays in the tens column, while you rename the 1 into the hundreds column.
Time to work out 6 x 300 now.
6 x 300 = 1,800
But you can’t forget about the 1 hundred you renamed - you need to remember to add that on to the answer.
1,800 + 100 = 1,900
Again, make sure everything is in the correct place value column.
Since, there is no number in the thousands place we can put our thousands into the answer block.
1,900 is 1 thousand and 9 hundreds.
The 9 stays in the hundreds column, while you place the 1 thousand into the thousands column.
325 x 6 = 1,950
