Tell your partner, what does the term equivalent mean?
What is the rule we use when finding equivalent fractions?
Look at the in focus in pairs write down groups of equivalent fractions.
How do you know they are equivalent?
How could halving and doubling also help prove this?
Here are some fractions
1/4 = 2/8 = 3/4
Are these fractions equivalent?
How do you know?
Using the fraction wall, I can see that 1⁄4 and 2⁄8 are equivalent as they are the same size; now I'll compare 1⁄4 and 3⁄4. They are not equivalent as 3⁄4 is greater than 1⁄4.
So, 1⁄4 < 3⁄4.
The sentences should read 1⁄4 = 2⁄8 and 1⁄4 < 3⁄4.
