Yesterday we began looking at the perimeter of a shape. You were given a square grid with a shape on and were asked to find the perimeter of the shape.

Lets look at Amira, Ravi, Charles and Emma and see if they are correct. Each child was given 5 Squares and were asked to make a shape that had a perimeter of 10 cm. Have a look at each shape who is correct and who isn't.

Lets check your answers by looking at the following.

So remember we need to work out the distance on each side and then add together to get the perimeter.

Alternatively, when using squares you can use the squares to count as you go around. This is shown on the video.

Amira - 2 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 10 cm - Her shape correctly made 10 cm.

Ravi - 3 + 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 12 cm  He had made the perimeter to high.

Charles - 5 + 1 + 5 + 1 = 12 cm - His shape was too big.

Emma - 4 + 1 + 4 + 1 = 10 cm  - She had made the perimeter exactly 10cm.

Go onto Purple Mash and complete the 'Perimeter' 2Do.
