LC- To find prime numbers

This week, we are going to begin learning about prime numbers. What do you remember about prime numbers from year 5?

Go through the powerpoint below. It will remind you about what primes are. Complete all the activities it asks you to do in your home books.

Sometimes people get mixed up with number 1.

A prime number can only be divided by 1 and itself, therefore has 2 factors.

1 has only 1 factor (itself) so isn't prime.

Have another look at the 10 square, what patterns do you notice?

Now have a look at the following problem.

Hopefully you noticed that she wasn't correct because 4 is not a prime number.

What numbers do we get if we add 2 prime numbers together?  Can you make any of the following even numbers by adding together 2 prime numbers?

 2, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16,18, 20

Let's learn.

Now have a go at the guided work.

When you are happy with what to do, please then record the Worksheet answers, If you're at home you can't circle numbers so just write them down.
