What do each of the fractions say?

Using the image below, show each fraction by shading the 100-blocks.

 

 

Start with 1/2.

How many tenths there are in the 100-block?

How many hundredths are there in the 100-block?

How many hundredths are there in a tenth?

How many tenths are there in 1/2 of the 100-block?

How many hundredths are there in 1/2 of the 100-block?

 

 

There are 5 tenths.
So we know that
1⁄2 = 5 tenths.

Write the tenths as a fraction and decimal.

Let’s repeat this with 1/4.

How many tenths are there in 1/4 of the 100-block?

How many hundredths are there in 1/4 of the 100-block?

 

 

There are 25 hundredths 
So we know that
1⁄4 = 25 hundredths.

Write the tenths as a fraction and decimal.

 

Let’s repeat this with 3/4.

How many tenths are there in 3/4 of the 100-block?

How many hundredths are there in 3/4 of the 100-block?

 

 

There are 75 hundredths 
So we know that 3/4 = 75 hundredths.

Write the tenths as a fraction and decimal.
