LC: To draw inferences round a character's thoughts and feelings.

LC: To justify your inferences confidently with evidence from the text using point and evidence.

So far in the Stig of the Dump story, Barney has spent lots of time with Stig and enjoys his company.

Barney has also done several things. He has given Stig a gift of apples and carrots, helped him dig out his cave and given him some empty jars and a truck.

Stig of the Dump is written from Barney's viewpoint.

However, I wonder what Stig really thinks about Barney.

Does he see Barney as a friend?

What evidence is there in the text to suggest this?

Pages 42- 53 of Stig of the Dump

Your First Challenge

Read through pages 42 - 53 of Stig of the Dump.

Find evidence which could support that Stig sees Barney as a friend.

Your Second Challenge

Write a letter to Barney as if you are Stig.

In the letter, you need to explain why you see Barney as your friend. Think about the following:

What does he do for you?

How does he make you feel?

Why is life so great now that Barney is in it?

You need to base the letter on the events in chapter 2.
