LC: To write direct and indirect speech.
Newspaper reports can include both direct speech and indirect speech.
Direct speech reports the actual spoken words of a speaker. It is written in first person.
Example from Flying Toads Toured the Town!
Indirect speech is when someone else reports what someone had said. It may not be the actual words spoken but describes what they said. It is written in third person.
Example from Flying Toads Toured the Town!
First Task
Find the direct and indirect speech in the Police Investigate Missing Boy newspaper report.
This can be found on Seesaw.
Second Task
Imagine that you have interviewed the old lady and the man in the Tuesday story.
What could they have said to you?
First, record what they said as direct speech.
Then, record what they said as indirect speech.
This can be recorded in your book.
