LC: To write the resolution to a story using dialogue, complex sentences with adverb starters and commas to mark clauses.

Today, you are going to continue to write your fantasy story using your boxed-up plan.

You will need the resolution part of your plan in order to do this.

Before you begin, orally retell the resolution part to your story so you know what it must include. You can then work on the extra detail when you come to write it.

It MUST include complex sentences, some with adverb starters, that are punctuated with commas accurately and dialogue.

You can use the Snow Queen T4W text and the  Sea Queen teacher text to help you.

Original text (Snow Queen)

After a while, they came across a house in the distance that was shaped like a whale. When they got nearer, Gerda saw an old woman with grey plaits standing in the doorway.

Hello, Gerda. I sensed you were coming. Your friend has been captured by the wicked Snow Queen but I know how you can defeat her and free your friend,” said the Wise Woman gently.

How brilliant! Please tell me how I can defeat her,” pleaded Gerda.

The Wise Woman explained, “Your powerful weapon against the Snow Queen is your loving heart.”

With her loving heart ready, Gerda, the raven and the reindeer set off to the Snow Queen’s palace. After some time, they arrived at the palace. Quickly, Gerda leapt of the reindeer’s back and raced up the enormous staircase  made entirely of ice and through the palace gates. She searched the entire palace until she found Kay in the throne room. While her heart filled with joy at seeing him, the Snow Queen appeared with a stare that was as cold as ice.

“How dare you enter my palace! I will turn you into a block of ice,” hissed the Snow Queen.

Bravely, Gerda stammered, “ I have a loving heart and you – you have no heart at all. I have brought warmth and love which defeats you.”

Instantly, the Snow Queen gave a loud cry like the sound of thick ice splitting on a frozen lake. Her enchanted face began to crack and splinter. Within seconds, she shattered into thousands of ice crystals. Since she had been defeated, the splinters of mirror in Kay vanished making him delightful again.

Teacher Text (The Sea Queen)

After a while, they came across a mass of seaweed. In the centre of the seaweed, there was a home that was shaped like an oyster shell. When they got nearer, Lucy saw an old mermaid with long, flowing silver-grey hair resting on a sea pearl.

Hello, Lucy. I sensed you were coming. Your friend has been imprisoned by the fiendish Sea Queen but I know how you can defeat her and free your friend,” said the wise mermaid gently.

How brilliant! Please tell me how I can defeat her,” pleaded Lucy.

The wise mermaid explained, “Your powerful weapon against the Sea Queen is your loving heart.”

With her loving heart ready, Lucy and the lionfish set off to the Sea Queen’s palace. After some time, they arrived at the coral reef palace. Cautiously, Lucy twisted and turned through the stony corals so that she wouldn’t be sliced or cut by their sharp tips before reaching the palace gates. She swam the entire palace until she found Tom floating inside a crab-shaped prison. While her heart filled with joy at seeing him, the Sea Queen appeared with a stare that was as cold as ice.

“How dare you enter my palace! I will feed you to my vicious sharks,” hissed the Sea Queen.

Bravely, Lucy stammered, “ I have a loving heart and you – you have no heart at all. I have brought warmth and love which defeats you.”

Instantly, the Sea Queen gave a loud cry like the sound of a volcano erupting. Her enchanted face began to boil and bubble. Within seconds, she began to change into thousands of gas particles and evaporated. Since she had been defeated, the seawater was no longer enchanted making everything in it delightful again.
