Lesson 2

LC: use fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present human and physical features of Lancashire using a range of methods (sketching maps).

BREAKING NEWS: aliens are coming to Stoneyholme!

There is just one problem... they don't know how to get here!

They need our help.

They don't have access to iPads or mobile phones, so they don't know how to use google maps!

Your task today is to create a tourist guide for the aliens, including a sketched map so that they can find their way to Stoneyholme Primary School.

Can you spot the human and physical features in this picture?

Why do you think the road is shaped like this?

For them to be able to find our school, what information must we include in our tourist guide?

1. Human features - such as?

2. Physical features - such as?

3. Directions

4. Landmarks

5. A map!

Talk to the person sitting next to you and write some examples of some human and physical features we could include.

Today, we are going to focus on adding in roads/streets to our maps, so that the aliens can find us easily. Can you see the roads on this map?

Your first task this morning is to sketch a map on the template provided. You started having a go at this last week. You need to make sure you include roads, rivers, hills, businesses and a key.

You can use google maps to help you.
