The Colosseum (an ancient stadium) was built in 80 AD and could seat 50,000 people. It is one of Rome's main tourist attractions.

 

The Pantheon is one of Rome's oldest buildings still standing in one piece. It was built in 118AD and was a worshipping place for pagan gods (before the Romans became Christians).

 

The Roman Forum is at the heart of the ancient Roman city that ruled the world for over 1000 years. In the past, you would have found Rome's most important buildings here.

 

St Peter's Basilica can be found in the smallest country in the world, The Vatican City. It is one of the most widely visited places in the world. It is the home of Pope Francis who is head of the Roman Catholic church. Every year, Roman Catholics from around the world make a pilgrimage to Rome to be closer to their faith.
