Homework

In Year 3 children will bring home a home reading book, a times table cards and spellings to learn. Please encourage your children to read their home reading book and practise their times tables and spellings at home.

Reading

Children will bring a reading book home daily and are expected to read it at home. They should be encouraged to read for at least twenty minutes each evening. Please sign their reading record and talk to them about what they have read. When your child has finished reading their book, they shall take a short quiz in school that will test their understanding. Their aim is to achieve 85% or more on each quiz. Log on to myon.co.uk to encourage your child to read many different books. Their target is to achieve 40 points by Christmas, 80 points by Easter and 120 points by the end of the Summer term.

Times Tables

Learning the times tables is a part of homework too.  In year 3, children need to be able to recall quickly the multiplication and division facts of 2, 5 and 10 times tables which they learned in Year 2, and the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

Spelling

Children will have a card with words they need to be able to read and spell. They should practise these daily. They will achieve a bronze, silver and gold award when they have completed each target - read the word, spell the word, put the word into a sentence.
