History

Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about different explorers. We have placed events on timelines in chronological order (time order- starting with the earliest event up to the most recent event.)

Do you remember ordering the events of the school day on a timeline?

Then you wrote a recount of your first day in Year 2 using words like first, next, then and after that.

After that, we placed the events of Captain Scott's journey to the South Pole in order on a timeline before writing a recount of his life.

All of those things happened in the PAST. Today we are living in the PRESENT. You could say the past was THEN and the present is NOW.

Today, we are going to place events onto a timeline that is much longer as it goes back a few centuries ( a century is a hundred years).

One of the explorers is Captain Scott, who we all know about and the other is Neil Armstrong, who some of you have read about being the first man to land on the moon.

If you are at school, you are going to cut out the two pictures and stick them on the timeline. If you are at home, draw the timeline in your book and add the two events in the empty boxes. (You can draw the pictures along with the writing if you want.)

When you have finished, write the words PAST, PRESENT, THEN and NOW in the boxes at the bottom.

Think carefully about what happened in the past and what is happening in the present.
