Apostrophes for possession

This week, we have learned that apostrophes can be used to show that something belongs to the noun. Let's look at an example:

The bone belonging to the dog = the dog's bone.

Sentences would be really long if we didn't use apostrophes for this purpose. Can you work out the possessive form for these sentences using the example above?

The brother belonging to Mohammad =

A friend belonging to Lola =

Remember, if the word already ends with an s, we just use an apostrophe at the end.

The toilets belonging to the girls = the girls' toilets.

Now write the statement using the apostrophe on your white board. If you are at home, email your sentences to your teacher.

A nest belonging to some birds =

The van belonging to the sisters =
