Apostrophes for singular possession

What do we mean when we use the word possession?

Possession refers to owning or having control over something.

An apostrophe can be used to show that one thing belongs to or is connected to something. This is called a possessive apostrophe.

Let's take a look at some examples.

We use ‘s if an object belongs to one person/animal/object.

Even if the person/animal/object ends in s, we would still use ‘s.

If I wanted to say:

The car belonging to the man.

How could I write this using an apostrophe to show possession?

The man’s car.

Using the rules above, fill in the boxes using a possessive apostrophe in the
correct place.
