LC: To identify and use main and subordinate clauses

Main/Independent Clause - A main clause explains a full idea and contains a subject and a verb. It makes sense by itself.

Subordinate/Dependent Clause - A subordinate clause provides extra information; it cannot be a sentence because it doesn't make sense by itself.

What are the main/subordinate clauses in the sentences below?

Mr Broadleday ate his lunch outside because it was a sunny day.

Although there was a long queue for the shop, Mrs Wallace needed some bottles of milk.

The enormous bag of sweets, which were on Mr Grimshaw's desk, had burst open.

Mr Oldfield went to collect the paintbrushes from the cupboard; they had all been taken.

Now go to Seesaw and complete the activity on clauses (Main and Subordinate Clauses).
