L.C. To understand similarities and differences between Derbyshire and a region of a European country.

Last week, we started to learn about Northern Europe.

Today, we are going to compare a region of the UK with a region of another country in Northern Europe.

Teacher Model

I am going to compare the landscapes of the areas Derbyshire, a county of the UK, and Halland, a province of Sweden.

First, let’s look at Derbyshire.

Derbyshire is full of hills and mountains. It has a surface area of 2,547 km².

The landscape of Halland features gentle slopes and beaches. It has a surface area of 5,719 km².

Comparison

The two regions are very different. Halland is more than twice the size of Derbyshire. The landscape of Derbyshire is very hilly and mountainous, whereas the landscape of Halland is more coastal with beaches and gentle (not steep) slopes.

Your Activity

You are going to look at the information under the following 4 headings.

After looking at both Halland and Derbyshire, you must decide if the information is similar or different. Using this, give a brief summary of the similarities and differences in the boxes on your worksheet.
