Geography

Let's take another look at a picture of Rio. This time, think of 3 questions you would ask someone about their city.

You might ask about the weather or what type of house they live in. You might want to know about what they do when they are not at school.

Yesterday we revised what we know about the human and physical features of Burnley and started to explore this new location- Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Today we are going to look at both locations in more detail so we can say what is similar about both places and what is different.

Take a look at places in Burnley from a view you might never have seen before. Can you recognise some of the landmarks?

Now let's take a closer look at Rio de Janeiro from the air too. When you watch this next video, look out for things that are similar to Burnley and things that are different.

Your task today is to use the sentence starters:

Burnley and Rio are similar because they both have ...

Burnley and Rio are different because one has ... and the other has ...

You could say they are similar because they both have statues but to show that you have really explored both places, go back and watch the videos again and look at them in more detail.

Then you might write:

Burnley and Rio are similar because they both have statues. In Burnley, it is called the Singing Ringing Tree and it is made of metal in the shape of a tree. In Rio, it is a statue of Jesus, which is a religious symbol for Christians.

Or you might write:

Burnley and Rio both have lots of physical features but Burnley has a hill called Pendle Hill and Rio has mountains.

You can go back to the videos and press pause as many times as you need in order to describe what you see in detail. If you are working at home, send a picture of your writing to your teacher when you have finished.
