L.C. To describe key human features of a region of a European country- settlement, land use, economic activity, trade links, distribution of natural resources.

Recap

With the person next to you:

Which continent were we focusing on during Geography on Wednesday?

Which countries did we locate?

What were the names of the 7 capital cities we marked on our map?

Which part of Europe were all of the 7 countries in?

What are human features?

Human features like houses, roads and bridges are things that have been built by people.

What are physical features?

Physical features like seas, mountains and rivers are natural.

They would be here even if there were no people around.

Which is a human feature? Which is a physical feature?

Leaning Tower of Pisa

Lake Como

Activity 1

On page 1, you have been given some features. Can you identify which are human features and which are physical features?

Today, we will be discussing and finding out information about one of the countries we looked at earlier on this week.

Which country do you think it is?

Sweden

When looking at maps, we can find out lots of information.

We can find information about:

settlement

land use

economic activity

trade links

distribution of natural resources.

Activity 2

On page 2, can you match up the explanation of each of the above to heading?

Together, we will focus on settlements.

Looking at the map above, I can see that most of the settlements are towards the South of the country.
The 2 biggest settlement areas are Stockholm and Malmö. These areas have over 100 inhabitants in a km square. Whereas, the likes of Norrbotten and Västerbotten, in the North, have less than 10 inhabitant over the same space.

After looking through the facts on the link above, I found out some more information about the population of Sweden.
These facts were:

  • The population of Sweden is around 9.9 million people.
  • The largest city in the country is Stockholm, the capital, home to over 1.2 million people.
  • Around 20% of the Swedish population is under the age of 18.

Activity 3

You need to focus on 2 of the following:

land use

trade links

or

distribution of natural resources.

Using the links below, find out as much information as you can

Then, log onto Seesaw and complete page 3 and 4 with the information you have found out about the headings you have selected.
