Today is the exciting day that you get to start writing your own story.

Before we start writing, we need to plan what to write.

If you are in school, talk to your talking partner about your ideas. If you are at home, share your ideas with an adult in your house.

  • Who is your main character?
  • Who will they meet? (this should be 3 characters like the goats)
  • Where will the story take place?
  • What language will they repeat? (It could be the words you liked from any of the traditional tales we have read or your own idea)

Now is the time to draw the story map that will help with the sequence of the story. Remember to draw pictures to remind you of key events not every word. It is OK to write conjunctions or time words to remind you to use them in your story.

REMEMBER TO ADD PUNCTUATION TO REMIND YOU WHEN YOU ARE WRITING!!!

Use your story map to write the beginning of the story.

Mrs Fernandes and Miss Rycroft will be looking for:

  • expanded noun phrases
  • apostrophes for contraction
  • subordination for time
  • commas in a list

As always, you should be using joined handwriting, capital letters and full stops.

If you are working at home, send a picture of your story map and writing to your teacher using Purple Mash.
