As part of our discussion last week, we learned that there are certain features of traditional tales that we need to keep in order to write our own (even when they have a twist).

Structural features:

  • 3 is an important number (3 little pigs, 3 bears, etc)
  • good v bad characters and good wins
  • events happen in chronological order

Language features:

  • "Once upon a time" is used to open the story
  • the main character repeats the same phrase (I'll huff and I'll puff, I'm going to gobble you up!)

Last week, we wrote a list of the exciting words and phrases we found in Listen! My bridge is so cool.

Today we are going to write a list of all the words and phrases we want to use in our story. It can be a mixture of phrases from any of the traditional tales we know.

If you are at home, send a picture of your list to your teacher.
