Today we are reading a story written by your teacher. Read it carefully and notice any words or phrases that you may need explaining. Write these words or phrases onto a whiteboard and then discuss them with your teacher.

We are going to read the story again using

Kung-fu punctuation.

We are now going to focus on these sentences below and find the adverbs.

Adverbs add information about an action. It will probably help to find the verbs first and then the adverb which adds information to them.

All around her, the crowd roared wildly.

After watching the warriors leave for battle, Barden sat at his aunt’s feet thoughtfully and asked, “Will life ever be the same again?”

Barden rushed outside eagerly to hear news of the battle and information about Uncle Egan’s fate.

Can you picture yourself in a crowd watching Boudicca? Or speaking to your Aunt about a forthcoming battle? Or hearing news of the battle?
Think of three sentences which contain an adverb in those three settings. Then say your sentences out loud. Then write your sentences into your English book.
