Modal Verbs

 

These are verbs that indicate likelihood, ability, permission or obligation.

Words like: can/could, may/might, will/would, shall/should and must.

Can you identify the modal verb in the sentences below?

Kate  hoped  that  she  would  see  goats  and  
sheep at  the  farm. 

 

"Could I have some tea please?" asked Alice.

 

"You should try some of the delicious cake." replied the Mad Hatter. 

 

"Can I have a ride home?" 

 

‘Well, I would like to be a little larger.’ 

 

"I must go!"

 

The Cheshire Cat is so happy, he can’t stop smiling.

 

If she keeps trying hard, she might just have a chance.
