To give opinions and support with reasons.

At Stoneyholme Primary School, we promote the fundamental British Values, which help us to be good citizens.

Today we are going to focus on Democracy and Individual Liberty.

Democracy- people have a say on what happens through voting.

Individual Liberty- having the freedom to make our own choices and do what we want, within reason.

This supports or learning on Article 12: Every child has the right to share their opinions and have their views taken seriously.

We are going to begin by reading or re-reading a selection of tales. There are many to choose from, so we are going to vote for which ones we read. To make it fair, we will read the ones voted for by the majority (the greater number) of people.

When we read through the tales, think about which character you would most/least like to meet and why. There will be opportunities to share your ideas with your partner.

Now it's your turn to share your ideas, giving reasons for your choice. Here are some examples:

I would like to meet Jack because he is brave when he climbs up the beanstalk, clever when he hides from the giant and fast when he runs away.

I would least like to meet the big, bad wolf because he is cunning when he tries to trick the pigs, scary when he blows their house down and angry when he doesn't get to eat the 3 Little Pigs.
