English 1

You've done such a fantastic job this week writing your own story that today we are going to do something completely different.

We are going to read a poem and learn it off by heart.

It's really important when reading poems like this to read a line at a time. Do you notice anything about the language used?

Well done if you noticed that some of the words sound the same. We call this rhyming. When there are two words that sound the same, these are known as 'rhyming couplets' because a couple is another word for two.

Well done if you also noticed that many of the lines start with the word 'My'. This is known as repetition because the word 'My' is repeated again and again.

Your task for this lesson is to learn the poem off by heart. Use actions to remind you which body part is being described in sequence.

If you are learning at home, ask an adult in your house to listen to your performance when you know the poem without the words.
