Our key concept questions for this half term will be:
Can you be the same and different at the same time? Is it
OK to be different?
This links to the whole school concepts Community and Equality.
This will be discussed through stories and a range of activities that celebrate our similarities and differences.
We will be exploring the following Rights Respecting Article 2
Every child has the right to be treated fairly, no child should be
discriminated against because of their gender, language, religion or disability.
In PSED we will be meeting some new characters to help us out with different learning behaviours.

In Literacy, we will be learning the gingerbread man story and changing the characters to create a new story.
We will be learning the language of retelling and using this in our stories. "first, next, after that, finally".
We will learning the language of description to describe the gingerbread man: "It is..., She is..., He is...".
In preparation for handwriting, we will continue to develop our core strength but move on to focus on wrist movement and hand/finger strength.
Through art and guided work we will start to show control of lines and patterns made using a comfortable pencil grip.
As mathematicians we will know how to orally count but starting and ending with different numbers and to count in 2’s. We will read all the numerals to 10, represent these numbers using fingers, objects, Numicon and 10 frames and match these sets to the correct numeral. We will know how to form the numerals 1-5 correctly and be able to subitise to 5. We will consolidate our number bonds to 5 using them in word problems. We will introduce ‘part, part, whole’ as a method of exploring addition and subtraction.
We will know how to compare quantities using the vocabulary ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’.
We will use the vocabulary of ‘side’ and ‘corner’ to describe the 2d shapes we learnt last half term and look at different ways to construct and deconstruct these shapes to make new shapes. We will use objects, shapes and colours to copy, continue and create simple repeating patterns, compare and sequence objects by length and use non standard units to measure objects by length.
During our RE we will be learning about Diwali and the story of the Nativity.

As artists, we will be exploring what happens when you mix
colours together. What art can you make by exploring colour,
lines and shape?

As engineers we will be coming up with ideas for helping to keep the gingerbread man safe.

As musicians, we will be answering; How does different music make you feel and move? Do you know how to keep the pulse? Can you identify the pitch of the music?
During PE we will be balancing on small body parts and
traveling on our hands and feet. We are learning how to
control pushing and patting objects, as well as throwing
under arm with some accuracy.
We will be performing a variety of gymnastic rolls.
As historians we will be looking at vehicles and finding out:
How do you know these vehicles are from the past? How do they compare to present day?
As geographers, we will be exploring what is a map and what do we use it for?
Do you know what all the colours and symbols mean?
After reading the story of 'Stick Man' we will be record his adventure. Can you draw the Stick Man's journey on a journey map?
As scientists we will be researching and exploring the signs of
Autumn. We will be answering these questions:
Can you use your noticing (over time) skills to tell me how you know it’s Autumn?

During Computing, we will be exploring the answer to the question: how can you type on a keyboard on different devices? Computer Science we will be using words like forward and backwards to describe how a programmable robot will move.
