Year 4

In Year Four, we study a wide range of genres:

non-chronological reports;

historical narrative;

poetic forms;

explanations;

fantasy;

classic poetry;

play scripts;

folk tales and fairytales;

stories with issues and dilemmas;

discussion texts;

newspaper recounts;

novel as a theme (Stig of the Dump by Clive King);

and persuasion texts.

The children have been reading and responding to a variety of texts before using them to gather content for their own writing. Then, they have innovated their own texts with support from their teacher. After, they created an invented piece to apply the skills they had learned.

When the children create their own non-fiction writing, other areas of the Year 4 curriculum, such as science, history and geography are integrated into the units. Take a look at some of the children’s work below.
