As scientists, we have been investigating the characteristics of rocks and soils. We have compared and grouped together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties. We have investigated and described how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. We have also investigated and observed how soils are made from rocks and organic matter.
As scientists, we explored the question; which material is the most suitable for a house roof? Following an experiment, we discovered that slate was impermeable and was therefore the most suitable type of rock.
