English

We will be reading the Middle-Eastern enchanting and magical folk tale Aladdin. We will explore the vocabulary and demonstrate our understanding through role-play and drama. We will also collect our favourite words and phrases to use in our own writing. Keep checking this page to see our progress.

Storytelling in Year 2

Maths

We will continue to learn that each digit in a number has its own value and to use the number bond strategy to deepen understanding of place value.
We will use place-value knowledge to think about the effects of each digit in a number and to solve word problems.

We will be learning to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. We will also be finding the durations of time using analogue clocks. You can help your child to learn by asking them questions like, 'It is 3 o'clock now, what time will it be in 1 hour?'

Science

As Scientists, we will identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other. 

We thought about the animals you would find in different habitats.

Computing

In Computing, we will be learning to test and amend a set of instructions and 

to find errors in code and debug.

Art and Engineering

We will continue to investigate inventing our own lines and marks. We will observe and create patterns and shapes using textiles.

We will and shape fabric using scissors and templates and create fabrics by weaving materials. Then we will decorate our work  using beads, buttons, feathers etc.

We will be learning about Judaism and Moses being given the Ten Commandments.

We will learn some of the Commandments – e.g. Keep the Sabbath Day holy, Respect your mother and father suggest ways in which the Ten Commandments might influence the life of a believer.

We will talk about how keeping the Sabbath day holy might influence a Jewish person and how the Sabbath is a way of making time for God and family.

PSHCE

We will be finding out how physical activity helps us to stay healthy; ways to be physically active every day, why sleep is important and different ways to rest and relax. 

We will learn how to ask for and give/not give permission regarding physical contact and how to respond if physical contact makes them uncomfortable or unsafe. 

We will learn to recognise that some things are private and the importance of respecting privacy.

P.E.

In Athletics, we will focus on skills such as running, jumping, and throwing. We will demonstrate underarm and overarm throwing aiming for consistent accuracy and distance using various targets. We will also develop different techniques to jump whilst maintaining balance and control and, use different obstacles to improve our speed and agility for our running.

Music

As Musicians, we will be listening to different types of music to appreciate similarities and differences between patterns and rhythms.

British Values and Rights Respecting School

We will continue to develop our understanding of British Values linking them through our learning and in our assembly times. This half term we will focus on Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and the Rule of Law.

 

We will focus on article 29: Education must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
