Spring 2

English

We will be reading texts around the theme ‘birds’. We will be using Talk for Writing to learn a non-chronological report, so we can write our own version. We will identify technical words and phrases about birds and explore how authors use paragraphs to inform readers.

We will also be reading Jill Tomlinson's The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark. We will explore the language used and identify similarities and differences between different chapters. We will then use this information to help us write a chapter of our own.

Maths

We will be learning about 2D and 3D shapes and their different properties. We will explore how to draw shapes, make patterns with shapes and turn shapes using familiar language.
We will be learning to name fractions of the same denominations and equal fractions looking at halves and quarters. We will compare and order fractions and counting wholes and parts. We will learn to count in halves, quarters and thirds.

We counted the number of sides and vertices on polygons we made

Making models using a variety of 3D shapes

Computing

In Computing, we will be learning to test and amend a set of instructions and

to find errors in code and debug.

Science

As Scientists, we will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants
We will find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

Super Scientists at work!

Geography

As Geographers we will use atlases, globes and aerial photographs to explore a non-European place, then use what we have learned to state similarities and differences with what we already learned about Burnley in Year 1. We will use Geographical language including ocean, valley, mountain, vegetation, port, harbour, beach, cliff and coast.

Engineering

In Engineering, we are going to design a purposeful, functional, appealing product based on a design criteria.

We will generate, develop, model and communicate our ideas through talking, drawing, templates, mock-ups and, where appropriate, information and communication technology.

We will select from and use a range of tools, equipment and materials to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing]

Evaluating ideas and products against design criteria

We selected from a range of equipment and materials to make and attach an axle holder and axle to a chassis.

Music

As Musicians, we will be listening to different types of music to appreciate similarities and differences between patterns and rhythms.

P.E.
In Orienteering, we will follow our Whole School Cross-Curricular Orienteering Scheme of Work. We will use a legend/key on a map to help us understand basic symbols and colours and, use our navigation skills to move forward, backwards, left and right. We will work individually and as a team to recognise, orientate and follow our School Orienteering map to complete challenges.

Creating maps in reality. 🧭🗺️

British Values and Rights Respecting School

We will continue to develop our understanding of British Values linking them through our learning and in our assembly times. This half term we will focus on Individual Liberty.

We will focus on two articles:

Article 13- Every child has the right to find things out and share what they think with others.

Article 14 - Every child has the right to think and believe what they choose and also to practise their religion, as long as they are

not stopping other people from enjoying their rights. Governments must respect the rights and responsibilities of parents to guide their child as they grow up
