Autumn 1

The key concepts we will consider this half term are:

Does change always make things better?

What does it mean to be a citizen

English

In Literacy, we are going to be reading instructions, identifying their key features and using these features to write our own instructions.

We will also be reading lots of tradition tales and tales with a twist. We will explore the language used and identify similarities and differences between them. We will then use this information to help us write a story of our own.

Spelling outside!

Maths

In Maths, we will be learning to count numbers up to 100 using concrete objects.

We will learn that each digit in a number has its own value and to be able to compare numbers using place-value knowledge.

Science

As Scientists, we will observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants.
We will find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.

Planting and harvesting crops to trade with Mr Hussain

Computing

In Computing, we will link our work with PSHCE when we learn about protecting ourselves from harm and learning how to get out of situations that make us feel uncomfortable, including when we are online.

As a Rights Respecting School, we will be looking at Article 19: Every child has the right to be protected from harm.

We will also test and amend a set of instructions then write out own algorithms before testing them to see if they work.

Art

In Art we will learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to our own work. We will make 3D forms from malleable and recycled materials.

Paper sculptures

We created a class sculpture to represent our feelings.

R.E.

In R.E we will be answering the questions 'How do we respond to things that really matter?' and 'What do special stories teach worshipers and others?'

We will be discussing how we look after natural resources and what we can do as responsible citizens to take care of the world. We will also look at the story of Creation and how Christians celebrate Harvest Festival.

PSHCE

We will learn about why we have rules to keep us safe. We will also learn about friendships, how to resolve arguments and ask for help if we are unhappy with friends. We will be identifying similarities and differences between families. We will learn about the common responsibilities people have in every family. We will learn how to share our worries if someone in our family makes us feel upset.

Music

As Musicians, we will be listening to different types of music to appreciate similarities and differences between patterns and rhythms.

P.E.

We will be learning to bounce a ball with some control and accuracy. We will use this skill to bounce a ball and pass, with some accuracy, and move into a space in a simple game.

British Values and Rights Respecting School

We will continue to develop our understanding of British Values linking them through our learning and in our assembly times. This half term we will focus on Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and the Rule of Law.

We will focus on article 29: Education must develop every child's personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child's respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.

We will also focus on article 12: Every child has the right to share their opinions on things that matter to them and have their views taken seriously.
