Year 6

Summer 1

Striking and Fielding: Cricket

In Cricket, we will demonstrate bowling overarm with accuracy and consistency. We will learn how to strike a Cricket ball using a Cricket bat. We will also be demonstrating how to catch and throw a Cricket ball when fielding. We will aim to use all the skills and tactics demonstrated and apply them into a modified Cricket game.

Spring 2

Orienteering

In Orienteering, we will follow our Whole School Cross-Curricular Orienteering Scheme of Work. We will demonstrate how to set and orientate a map when moving round courses. We will plan efficient routes and navigate to control markers during scoring events. We will also experience courses using all eight compass points. We will share ideas, encourage others, work in team situations and recognise our successes and ways we can improve.

Spring 1

Gymnastics

We will create partner balances using matched and mirrored shapes. Perform counter and tension balances, creating sequences with our partners and in a group. We will perform sequences and develop them onto apparatus. We will evaluate success of paired and grouped sequences.

Autumn 2

Invasion Games: Tag Rugby

We will use consistency, accuracy and control when passing and catching a rugby ball. We will apply simple tactics to outwit opponents when playing a game and make decisions on when to pass. We will also apply simple attacking and defending tactics and apply these in ruby games. Finally, we will evaluate our own and others work and suggest ways of improvement.
