Vegetable Tomato Pasta!


  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ medium onion, grated
  • 1 small courgette, grated
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 pinch crushed black pepper
  • 2 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes (about 800g)
  • 300g penne pasta, cook according to packet instructions

Method:    (ask an adult to help you)

  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium high heat then add onions, courgette, carrots and cook stirring in-between until the vegetables have slightly turned brown and the water from the vegetables have started to evaporate.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes, and bring to a bubble.
  • Then add the salt, pepper stir to coat evenly then reduce heat to low and simmer for about 25 minutes stirring in-between.
  • Whilst the sauce is simmering cook the pasta according to the packet instructions.
  • Next drain the pasta reserving about ½ cup of the pasta water and set aside.
  • Then add the drained pasta to the tomato and vegetable sauce and gently stir through. (If the sauce is too dry add a bit of the reserved pasta water).



To receive a Pass certificate you will need to follow the recipe above. By making the recipe above will help you to identify different texture and taste as well as how it looks once it has been prepared.



To receive a Merit certificate you will need to create your own tortilla pizza recipe using the above recipe as an example. You will need to show your budget (how much it will cost to make). You can also use different toppings of your choice. You will also have to do an activity sheet called Choose My Plate, which you can download or fill online.



To receive a Distinction certificate you will need to show a picture of your ingredients and a picture of the food that you have made. You will also need to provide the school with some comments from your friends or family members who have tried your recipes that you have made.
