Warm up

For our grammar warm up this week, we are focusing starting sentences with 'ing' openers. This means that the sentence must start with an 'ing' opening clause.

 

Look at the examples below. As you can see, both sentence begin with 'ing' opening clause and a commas is used to separate the main clause from this in the sentence.

 

Read the sentence and familiarise yourself with this new grammar skill.

Today we are going to be making predictions using information in a text. To make your predictions you will need to use the clues in the text to tell the reader what you think is going to happen next.

Step 1

Look at the model below. I am going to use the information in the text below to make a prediction and tell the reader what I think is gong to happen next.

 

What do you think will happen next?

I think that Alice in going to drink from the bottle and grow really tall because of the liquid inside.

 

What clues are there to make us think that?

Because she put her lips to the bottle which tells me she is going to drink from it.

 

Ask you can see, I have used the information in the text to make my prediction and supported is with clues from the text.

TASK 1

Then, complete prediction 2 in your blended learning book.
