Talking Maths

In Talking Maths today we are going to see what is the smallest number of coins we can use to pay for something.

For example if something cost 20p the smallest number of coins we could use is 1, a 20p coin.

What is the smallest number of coins you could use to buy something that cost 21p?

That's right 2 coins, a 20p coin and a 1p coin.

What is the smallest number of coins you could use to make 27p?

If you are learning at home send your teacher a picture of your answer.
